Pushkar Fact File The picturesque Pushkar is set in a valley just about 14 kilometers off Ajmer in the north Indian state of Rajasthan. Pushkar is a sacred place for Hindus and has a staggering 400 temples, of which the most important is dedicated to Lord Brahma.Apart from that its famous for it Pushkar Fairs, Camel Fairs etc.

Pushkar Lake:
It is one of the major pilgrimage spot for the devotees to Pushkar. It is popularly believed that it is the lake that sprang up from the lotus flower that belonged to Lord Brahma. Surrounded by around 500 temples, 52 palaces and 52 ghats this lake is one of the major attractions of the town. During the month of November on Kartik Purnima devotees from all over the country come to take a dip in the holy water of the lake. One of the world famous fair is organized beside the Pushkar lake on this occasion that is visited by tourists from all around the world.
Brahma Temple:
One of the most sought after Hindu temples in the world, it worships the deity of Brahma. It is considered to be the only temple in the world that worships Lord Brahma. The temple is well known for the life size image of the Lord. The marble floors and stairs are well known for their architecture and artistry. Devotees drop coins here to wish for their near and dear ones

Savitri Temple:
Situated on the top of the hill known by the name of Ratnagiri in Pushkar, the temple worships Goddess Savitri, considered to be the wife of Lord Brahma. According to the popular belief, after anathematizing her husband Lord Brahma for marrying another woman, she went up to this hill and sacrificed herself.


Warah Temple:
Worshiping an image of wild boar, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, it is a temple situated in Pushkar. It is was constructed by King Anaji Chauhan. According to the legend, Lord Vishnu appeared in the region to demolish the demon known by the name of Hirnayaksh.

Kuchaman: it is famous all over for the fort that is located in the region. Constructed by the Gujjar Pratihara race, it is well known all over the world for its brilliant architecture and artistry. The temple has some exquisite paintings and sculptures of Meera Bai. There is also a temple inside the fort that is visited by large number of tourists all the year round

Kishangarh: it is a city located at a little distance from the town of Pushkar. Famous for the miniature paintings all over the world belonging to the 18th century, the place is visited by large numbers of tourists from all over the world. The city is also famous for the wide range of marbles available at the place

Roopangarh Fort: well known for its brilliant architecture and sculpture, the Roopangarh fort was built by Maharaja Roop Singh in the year 1648. Presently a heritage hotel, the fort showcases the store houses made of stone, royal rooms and corridors and jails. It has an air of tradition and culture explicit in the surroundings of the fort.

Ajmer: located at the distance of 14 kilometers from the town of Pushkar, the city of Ajmer is famous all over the world for the sacred Dargah of the Sufi Saint Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chisti. The Dargah receives devotees from all over the country irrespective of caste and religion. The Ana Sagar Lake, Nasiyan Temple, and the Adhai Din ka Jhonpra are also important tourist attractions in the city of Ajmer.

Celebrated on the day of Kartik Purnima, Pushkar Camel Fair starts with a camel race. Cultural events like music, songs and exhibition etc. are other important events of the festivals.
Pushkar Fair: The main event of Pushkar Fair is celebrated on Kartik Purnima. Legend has it that on this day, God Brahma leapt out of the Pushkar Lake.
Kartik Poornima: Every year in November, pilgrims converge to take a dip in the holy Lake on the auspicious full moon night. It is believed that during this time, the Gods revisit earth to bless the devout. Diyas (earthen oil lamps) and flowers are floated on the water while chanting of prayers fill the night air
